EMPIRE RECORDS

Hmm. I don't know where to begin... The killer cast? The great script? The bitchin' soundtrack?
I guess I do know where to begin.

Renée Zellweger & Liv Tyler are two actresses that annoy me always have & despite the fact that in a general manner of speaking they make okay movies I think they always will. But, I will admit that in this movie they play their roles to a tee.
This is the movie that made me fall in love with Ethan Embry, it's a shame that he has vanished off of the movie scene because I think he is an extremely underrated actor, but he is only one amongst a whole list in this movie.
Johnny Whitworth, Rory Cochrane & Brendan Sexton III, all actors that we don't hear much about but good actors none the less. Robin Tunney fits very nicely into the mix & Anthony LaPaglia isn't playing a mobster, it suits him.
The script is very real, you really do feel like all of these people know each other very well & have been working together forever.
In a movie about a record store the soundtrack is crucial & this movie has one of the best OST's evvvvvvvvver, very 9o's but in a good way, it's everything you love about the begining of the 9o's.

Empire Records has become a timeless movie, cult classic, it's one of the few movies that actually makes you want to become an underachiever. The first time I saw this, I was 11 years old & all I wanted to do was work in a record store. Funny, entertaining, good music, good actors, good story, wonderful location. I don't know what else people really look for in a movie.

watching on the TV...

So, an other show produced by Mark Wahlberg amongst others. On the contrary to Entourage this show isn't about once you make it big, it's the before part.
I think that the location is use a lot better than in Entourage. New York is a beautiful city & you can see it in the show.
Bryan Greenberg is what I think an extremely underrated actor. I have loved him in pretty much everything I have seen him in, and here he does a great job of a struggling underacheiver who wants it all but doesn't nessecarily want to have to work for it.
Victor Rasuk has one of those faces, you are sure you have seen him somewhere but you just can't place it. He plays the role of the loud mouth, out-going somewhat cooky best friend to the tee. He is likable, but has the potential of becoming very annoying soon.
I am THRILLED to see Shannyn Sossamon is in this, she is a beautiful, elegent & talented actress & I think the NYC art scene role that she has taken on suits her very well.
I am curious to see how Scott Mescudi will succeed as an actor, everyone knows him a lot better under the pseudonyme Kid Cudi. I like the music, will I like the acting? After o4 episodes it is hard to tell.
That being said this show has a lot of potential. Great location, because after all is said & done who doesn't love New York? Good cast. Real writing. Great producers. Amazing directing. Everything that this show has going for it, is being used to perfection. The fact that the show isn't about having loads of money, women, material things, etc... Is what I like about it. Don't get me wrong I love Entourage, but I love this aspect of making it in the art business aswell, it's what every artist wants, the story of struggle before success, because who wants to listen to a story where having it all came easy? We all want to know that we are working our asses off for a reason...We do it because we hope that one day it might turn into something great & in the mean time, you are doing what you love & that is the story being told by this show.
I would tune in if I were you.

listening to...

HOT MESS - COBRA STARSHIP

Don't let the pretty colors distract you. Although I must say this album cover confused me for a quick second.
Now, I will be honest. Cobra Starship was never really my cup of tea. But then again I never really listened to them...
I was a fan of The Sounds, and I heard "
Bring it" which was on the Snakes on a Plane OST (DO NOT get me started on that movie). And to be honest this was a song that I throughly enjoyed.
I heard their version of "Hollaback boy", which I find HI-larious. Then, a while back I heard that Leighton Meester was doing a song with Cobra Starship and I was all "Ahhh, I know them", so I figured, check it out.
And I am very happy that I did.

Hot Mess is refreshing & different. You can not really class Cobra Starship into any one genre.
Which in my opinion is one of the many reasons this is a great band.
They have those new age rock roots, literally just a pinch of hip-hop influence then add a semi-electro sound without the annoyingness of actual electro music into the mix and you have Cobra Starship. Kind of.

On this album every song you hear makes you want to not only get up & dance but it makes you want to go out get piss ass drunk and start shit.
"
Good girls go bad" is a wonderful collaboration between the band and Leighton Meestor, Blair Waldorf has a voice, who'd a thunk it. She does a great job & the video is just... The colors, the music, the ambiance... It is a perfect combination of everything you want out of the song.
"
Hot Mess" hmm. What to say? It is a song pretty much any girl who likes to party can relate to.
Goddamn when I am stumbling the streets I can only hope I am looking hella fine because if not, with the amount of alcohol I consume... We may have some issues.

People rate "classic" songs by their meaning. What is behind the song, what message is being sent, what kind of role model they were, how that song changed your life... Which is normal. You know a great song when every time you hear it, it brings you back to the first time you heard it.
Cobra Starship is not trying to change the world, or force their opinions on the masses through their music. There may not be a deep message behind every word, or there may just be the deepest message of all:
Life is short & it could end at anytime, so just do your thing.
Which may not seem deep but these guys & girl get the point across, that is what makes them great.

Cobra Starship is revolutionizing a whole new music genre, and how often can you say that nowadays when everything sounds the same?
And the fact like they seem like people you just want to spend all day with helps:

A HOT MESS: A person who is a handful, he/she is a piece of work, and or a colorful character.

and I am back...

Back, and inspired really. Not inspired as much as I am bored.
But then again, being bored is just a reason to start being creative, think of the wonders that wouldn't exist if someone some where didn't get bored out of their minds and decided to do something about.

Thinking about it like that... I could be the next big thing. Or not.

I could be like most of the people out and about, having absolutly nothing else to do but sit in front of the computer and watch stupid youtube videos, listening to music whilst surfing strange sites looking for something to entertain myself from the fact that my life is so sad I have nothing else to do but this, so I am just content looking at people getting married in the 99 cent store and just saying to myself at least I am not at that point in my life, thank god.
Then that gets me thinking, hot damn, (yes, I am saying hot damn now) I'd rather be that old lady in the smelly house with a mess of animals on the corner, than get married at the 99 cent store.
Not only does that store just piss the shit out of me because it isn't 99 CENTS, it's 99 cents plus tax...
Can we say false advertisement?
It should be called the 1.o7 dollar store, then, and only then would I think about getting married there. Jeeeez people.
Then there is also the whole... Like really, father of the bride, you couldn't spring for like an outdoor wedding? There is no back yard in the trailer park you happen to live in? No parking lot you can make look pretty with some white Christmas lights and some weeds from the field next door?

That is all I really have to say about that.
